As the wonderful summer of 2013 draws to a close and we are contemplating putting on the heating and pulling out a warm jumper the weather is in for one final farewell this weekend! For those of us that enjoyed a good Rose these are now being discounted by the big stores so a great change to jump in and pick up an amazing bargain. Autumn may not naturally make you think of Rosé but there’s a final weekend of sunshine to be enjoyed………
Here are our top picks:
The perfect summer wine, this Shiraz Rosé is bursting with gorgeous flavors of strawberry, raspberry and cranberry. The finish is crisp and dry with a hint of mouth-watering spice. Suggested food matching. To be really appreciated, the Shiraz Rosé must be served well chilled. It can be paired with crisp salads or terrines of pork, ham hock or a duck confit. Crisp and dry with quite a lot of body, seafood is also a great food match for Shiraz Rosé – try with grilled prawns in garlic butter. Dessert wise, Shiraz Rosé with a bowl of ripe strawberries sprinkled with sugar and fresh mint is delightful.
A delicate rose from Catalunya offering strawberry, raspberry and pear fruit flavorswith just a touch of almond on the finish. Citrus notes and a mouthwatering crispness of flavor keep the wine fresh and balanced. Made from Garnacha and Carinena grapes, this excellent pink exemplifies Torres quality. Try with fresh fruit.
An attractive light pink color with a fresh grapey nose and distinct varietal characteristics. The sweet rosé wine is a particularly well balanced fresh, light and fruity wine. Being excellent as an aperitif, it is also the ideal accompaniment to Chinese and Italian food, barbecues, salads and shellfish.
Salmon pink with a bouquet of good intensity and elegance that holds scents of flowers and fruits, like rose, wild strawberry and raspberry with a touch of black pepper. In the mouth, soft and semi-sweet with hints of fresh strawberry and orange zest. Very easy to drink, fruity, quite soft, well balanced.
Sourced from several vineyards throughout the east coast of New Zealand’s north island, principally Hawkes Bay and Gisborne. The wine’s delicate colour is achieved by allowing only half the wine to rest on the grape skins for around 24 hours. Pale and delicate, yet nicely defined, the wine offers aromas of wild strawberries and ripe forest fruits. Medium-bodied for a rosé, with a fine balance between lush fruit and refreshing acidity. Best served with seafood starters such as salmon terrine, fruits de mer, or crayfish salad.
A fabulous Rose that we really enjoyed back in June. It’s an absolute steal at the moment at Sainsburys, 50% off of its usual price. And although it is to be enjoyed immediately (so not worth saving for 2014) what a wonderful way to reminise about a great 2013 !
