Champagne, oysters, beer – one of these is not your typical aphrodisiac. Yet Innis & Gunn have come up with a limited edition ‘performance enhancing’ beer that nods towards the upcoming release of Fifty Shades of Grey.
The Scottish brewer’s 50 Shades of Green includes ginseng, which is said to increase sexual desire; ginkgo biloba, a herb which causes the blood to pump faster, and damiana, a nerve stimulant.
The limited edition pale ale blends 50 hops from around the world, such as sorachi ace from Japan and pacific jade from New Zealand, which are both said to have lemongrass notes.
Dougal Sharp, the CEO of Innis & Gunn, alluded to the beer’s playful qualities: ‘We had a lot of fun making this beer, doing things that have never been done before in brewing, much like couples all over Britain will be doing behind closed doors once they’ve seen the film.’
Only 200 bottles of the ale were made and it will be available on the company’s website for pre-order at £30 for a 330ml bottle.
Red Satin and White Silk, the official 50 Shades of Grey wines, are already on the market.
