As you are no doubt aware, this is British Pie Week. Our thoughts obviously turned to potential drinks matches. Every pie can find a pair.
Pork Pie – Timothy Taylor Landlord Ale
The four time winner of CAMRA‘s Beer of the Year is a great accompaniment to this classic English pie. Incidentally, it is also the beer of choice for Madonna and Hugh Grant.
Steak and mushroom pie – Wild Earth Central Otago Pinot Noir
A robust Pinot Noir makes a good contrast to the earthiness of the mushrooms. Plus if it is a steak pie made with a red wine sauce it will be crying out for an accompanying red.
Macaroni cheese pie – Baron de Badassierie Picpoul de Pinet Coteaux du Languedoc
When eating a vegetarian pie you want to ensure that the drink does not overwhelm the more subtle flavours. We’ve opted for a relatively neutral Picpoul de Pinet.
Pumpkin pie – Kraken Black Spiced Rum
We can think of few things better to go with a sweet and spicy pie than a sweet and spicy drink. Plus a tot of this dark rum would make a nice contrast to all the orange.
