For many, Christmas is wrapped up with the Radio Times bumper issue. It is one of the few times of the year when both daytime TV watching and daytime drinking become socially acceptable. This doesn’t mean that you should start slobbing out in front of the telly – add some class by drinking the same cocktails you see on screen to accompany these classic films.
Guys and Dolls Tonight, BBC4, 7pm
Milk Punch
Ingredients
30ml Brandy
30ml Rum
Milk
White sugar
Grated nutmeg
Method
Stir the brandy and rum together in a mixing glass filled with ice, then strain into a rocks glass. Top up with milk, add sugar to taste and sprinkle with grated nutmeg.

Planter’s Punch
Ingredients
50ml Dark rum
25ml Fresh lime juice
Sugar syrup
Soda
Lime Wedge
Method
Pour the rum and lime juice into a cocktail shaker filled with ice, add a large dash of sugar syrup and two dashes Angostura bitters. Shake and strain into a highball glass filled with ice. Top with soda and garnish with a lime wedge.
