With Christmas coming up we thought we would give you a preview of our 5 favourite Gins, that will be included in the Bring a Bottle Christmas Drinks guide. In no particular order………….
Foxhole Gin is made using a grape spirit produced by pressing the unused juice from grapes grown in Sussex vineyards. This process helps us to reduce wastage by using a sustainable raw material for the base spirit, a foundation that gives Foxhole Gin its unique and complex flavour characteristics.Currently available is Foxhole Gin: marc 3, the third batch of Foxhole Gin, created using the rare and valuable by-products from the 2015 grape vintage. Foxhole Gin takes 8,760 hours to make; a full grape-growing season, a long fermentation and six distillations in a hand built copper still. Multiple award winning, Foxhole Gin is beautifully balanced, smooth and aromatic with flavours that subtly change with each new harvest.
The Lakes Distillery is home to the Lakes Gin, a wonderfully fragrant and citrussy gin with true Cumbrian provenance. The Lakes Distillery opened just 3 years ago in a beautifully refurbished Victorian farm, situated on the banks of the River Derwent. The distillery is focussed on producing a range of premium spirits, crafted in the time-honoured way in handmade traditional copper stills. The Lakes Gin is the centrepiece to their family of spirits, which includes the artisan Lakes Vodka and the ONE, the ‘one and only’ British Isles blended whisky.
The Lakes Gin is light and floral, with a classic juniper and citrussy flavour. Botanicals are sourced from the local fells surrounding the distillery, including local juniper, heather and bilberry. This is married with the clearest water from the Lake District National Park to create this exceptionally smooth gin.
The first Gin to be distilled in Glasgow, Makar is a vibrant, Juniper based, handcrafted gin that derives its name from the ancient Scots word for craftsman, aptly reflecting the dedication and care of our team of distillers. The Heptagonal shape of the slender bottle meanwhile echoes the number of times the liquid is pot distilled in our copper pot still ‘Annie’ and the number of carefully selected botanicals that complement the finest Juniper berries in our award-winning gin. Bright, vibrant and well-balanced Makar Gin is perfect for gin-led cocktails or invigorating with a high-quality tonic water and a slice of mild green chilli.
Conker Spirit is Dorset’s first gin distillery, and a model example of a new and innovative craft distillery invigorating a classic. Distilled in Bournemouth from British wheat and New Forest Spring Water, the Dorset Dry is a refreshing take on a London dry. So whilst still a classic gin that’s true to juniper, Conker has bright and refreshing herbaceous notes from the Dorset inspired botanicals of elderberries, marsh samphire and handpicked gorse flowers. Well balanced, complex with a long summery finish, Conker Gin makes a moreish G&T and a divine Martini – wet or dry!
Kokoro is a an exceptional British gin with a distinctive Japanese heart. It is distilled with eight botanicals; juniper, coriander, angelica, sweet orange, almond, licorice, savory and orange peel, as well as its key ingredient, fresh sansho berries imported from sustainable sources in the Afan Woodland of Nagano prefecture, Japan. Sansho berries are used extensively in Japanese cuisine and have a distinctively earthy black pepper flavour with a piney citrus aftertaste. They are what gives Kokoro its uniqueness. Close your eyes and think of the forest – that’s where our heart is.
