Scientists have found that drinking alcohol can make you “more attractive” to the opposite sex.
University of Bristol researchers found that one large glass of wine increased the attractiveness of the drinker because it led to facial flushing and greater confidence.
Forty male and female heterosexual students rated the attractiveness of three groups of people: one sober, one tipsy and one drunk.
The study showed that the tipsy group – who had drunk one large glass of wine, equivalent to a third of the bottle – were consistently voted the most attractive, ahead of the sober and drunk groups.
This phenomenon has been labeled the “reverse beer goggles” since it is the first to show that drinkers themselves become more attractive.
Professor Marcus Munafo, from Bristol University, said: “You consume a drink, so you see other people as more attractive, but you also become more attractive yourself because you’ve consumed a drink.”
Rosiness brought on by drinking is, according to the study, perceived as “healthy and attractive” since it mimics how the body acts in order to attract potential mates.
