Still Wine Falls Flat
Sales of still wine have continued to slow in the UK, whilst the popularity of bubbly stuff continues to rise.
Sparkling wine sales reached £101.9million which is a whopping 15.5% increase on last year – undoubtedly much of that being driven by affordable Prosecco. However, the fall of 1.5% in still wines did not take into account the discounters such as Lidl and Aldi which have been very popular with wine buyers this year.
Man Pleads Guilty to Christmas Wine Robbery
Davis Kiryakoz, 44, has admitted to plotting to steal around $1million worth of wine from a famous French restaurant called ‘The French Laundry’ on Christmas Day in 2014.
The first part of the less-than-festive heist saw the theft of 110 bottles of wine including famous favourites such as Screaming Eagle and Domaine de la Romanée Conti, whilst planning a second robbery at a wine merchant in San Francisco.
Kiryakoz pleaded guilty and will be sentenced in March 2017.
