Sales of British wines are at an all time high. Intense media interest along with increased demand have seen sales in British red wines surge in recent years. British wines have never been greater. Due to the different microclimates and soil conditions throughout the country, a wide variety of vines have been planted, making all British wine have a distinct style. British reds tend to have a floral bouquet as well as a crisp, fresh taste.
However, British weather must be taken into account. The climate and soil conditions dictate the types of grape which can be grown and harvested correctly. Black grapes are the hardest to grow, as they need a warmer climate, which means that only 10% of wine production is currently red.
But the reds available are brimming with quality, and there are still plenty of grape varieties to choose from.
