Austrian Rose Wines

Until recently, rosé wines played a minor supporting role in the Austrian wine scene. However, they are slowly making their way to main stage. Those who appreciate Austrian rosé wine will know that its elegance and synergy of delicate, feminine hue and vibrant style is served chilled, and pairs perfectly with a light starter or fish dishes. Rosé wine is produced in all of Austria’s wine-growing regions and in a variety of different styles. Charming young wines include the fantastic Primus Pannonicus from Burgenland, fresh Zweigelt and St. Laurent wines from Niederösterreich (Lower Austria), or the racy Schilcher from the Weststeiermark (West Styria). Austrian Rosé wines have finally overcome the criticism of being ”neither fish nor fowl“; those that like rosé wine know that it goes well with both.
