Jerez and the town of Jerez de la Frontera are located within the Cadiz province of Andalucia in the South West corner of Spain, and sit between sea and mountains.Infamous for producing Sherry (and Brandy), the main grape variety grown in Jerez is Palomino Fino but Pedro Ximenez - often referred to as PX - is also found in the region, too. The combination of long, hot summers, mild winters and the ‘albariza’ soil provide perfect conditions for growing Palomino Fino and Pedro Ximinez grapes. For a wine to be classed as Sherry, 40% of its grapes have to have been grown on this chalky soil that’s native to the region. Many of Jerez’s bodegas have existed for hundreds of years and the most popular styles coming out of the region are Fino and Manzanilla Sherry.
